Hand made wooden scrapbooks

The are hand made Birch Scrap Books. These can be made to fit ANY of your scrapp booking insert pages. If you use plastic inserts you can you them as a starting template. Make a template by using a Brown paper bag that is cut down the side and the bottom removed. Trace the out side edge of the plastic or paper inserts. Now you need to give your self a half inch margine so with a ruler, T-square and a protractor to check your angles make another square around the outside of the traced paper, or insert.

Once you have made sure you have your perfect sides and corners. Using the insert or paper as guide mark where the hinge is going to line up. the inserts have a already marked perforation and you want your hinge to be 1/16" to the outside of that mark. This will give you the space needed to easily turn the pages.

If using paper you will also need a whole punch. I find using Notebook paper works great for aligning the wholes. Decide between two and tghree posts. The scrap book expandable posts can be purchased at Michaels or at your Local Hardware store. I find that Aubuchon's is the best place to buy these and they also sell the decorative hinges you see in the pictures. If you use standard birch Plywood the brass corners are a nice touch.

I use a standard table saw a electric hand sander and 1/4 drill bit. Now the hinges either come with nails or screws which are OFTEN TOO LONG for the wood and for this I use my Dremel took with the carbide cutting blade to remove the length. I also predrill the starting wholes to prevent the wood from splitting when using screws.
